About the Journal

The International Journal of Medical Humanities Studies (IJMHS) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published by HIEP Publishing House (Hong Kong). Professor MA Li, President of Southern Medical University, serves as Honorary Editor-in-Chief, and Professor WANG Zhongqiang of the same university serves as Editor-in-Chief.

IJMHS is a fully open-access, English-language journal with no article processing charges (APCs). All research articles undergo double-blind peer review, and published articles are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). The inaugural issue is scheduled for the first half of 2027. All articles will be freely available in full text on the journal’s official website: https://www.mhsjournal.com/

Scope

IJMHS encourages interdisciplinary dialogue between the medical humanities and fields such as literature, language, history, philosophy, ethics, culture, the arts, education, communication, sociology, and anthropology. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

▪      Theories of the medical humanities

▪      History and culture of medicine

▪      Medical narratives and literature, including illness narratives and life writing

▪      Medical language, translation, and health communication

▪      Clinical humanities, patient experience, and care

▪      Medical ethics and bioethics

▪      Medical education and humanistic competencies

▪      Cross-cultural and global perspectives

▪      Artificial intelligence and digital health

The journal has no fixed thematic sections and welcomes submissions across and beyond these areas. Book reviews are also welcome on a rolling basis. We warmly invite scholars worldwide to contribute, explore new directions in medical humanities research, and help build an international platform for scholarly exchange.

Submission Guidelines

Manuscripts should be submitted to the journal’s sole official submission email address, mhsjournal@163.com, with the subject line formatted as “Author Name + Article Title.”

For multi-author manuscripts, at least one corresponding author must be designated to handle all communication from submission through peer review, revision, and publication. Authors should provide complete author information with their submission, including names, authorship order, corresponding author designation, institutional affiliation(s) and country/region, email address(es), ORCID iD(s), and funding information, where applicable.

All manuscripts must be written in English, with in-text citations and references following APA Style (7th edition). Research articles must include an abstract and keywords. To ensure double-blind peer review, author names, affiliations, and other identifying information must appear only on a separate title page, and the main manuscript should be fully anonymized.

Research articles should generally not exceed 10,000 words, and book reviews should not exceed 3,000 words. Submissions must be original, previously unpublished, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy and integrity of their work.

Peer Review and Publication

The journal aims to complete peer review and return reviewer feedback within 6–8 weeks. Published articles will be promoted through the journal’s official website and relevant scholarly channels. Please note that IJMHS has not authorized any institution, agency, or individual to solicit submissions on its behalf.
